Liverpool one of five clubs world class midfielder is considering joining this summer

Liverpool are one of just five clubs that Joshua Kimmich will consider joining if he leaves Bayern Munich in the summer.

The former RB Leipzig star has been at the Allianz Arena since 2013 but is now closing in on the final year of his contract with Bayern.

This opens the door for five of Europe's biggest teams to try and poach him when the summer transfer window opens.

What's the latest transfer news on Joshua Kimmich?

Reporting via Twitter (now called X), Florian Plettenberg reports: “News [on] Kimmich: FC Bayern are indeed prepared to sell Kimmich this summer if a suitable offer comes in.

"Additionally, JK is not ruling out a move, and he is open to discussions with potential buyers! Still no concrete talks about a new contract beyond 2025.

“Only five top clubs are in consideration for Kimmich: Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Some of the mentioned five clubs have already contacted Kimmich! A move to Manchester United, Chelsea, and Paris is not an option for him.”

Do Liverpool need Kimmich or is Wataru Endo sufficient?

When he first joined the club at the end of the 2023 summer transfer window, Wataru Endo did not arrive with much expectation.

In fact, in the eyes of many, myself included, he was a disppointing signing iniitially after we watched as Liverpool tried and failed to complete a record Premier League move to sign Moises Caicedo.

After a £111 million fee was agreed with Brighton, the 22-year-old joined Chelsea instead for £115 million.

Liverpool then signed Wataru Endo for just £16 million from Stuttgart. At the time, Jurgen Klopp was effusive in his praise for the Japan international but it felt like compensation for the failed Caicedo move.

He was being totally serious...

Endo has now impressed supporters to the point that there's a legitimate argument for Liverpool no longer needing a new defensive midfielder.

But Kimmich is one of those midfielders you simply do not turn your nose up at. Having both Endo and the German no.6 would likely give the Reds the strongest depth in that position of any Premier League side.

So, yes, Liverpool should sign him if they can.
