Joshua Kimmich reportedly wants to join Manchester City over Liverpool

Joshua Kimmich reportedly wants to join Manchester City over Liverpool

Liverpool have been linked with elite defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich but a report now suggests the German midfielder would prefer a move to Manchester City.

Recently, Manchester United and Liverpool were said to be opening to bidding for Kimmich as Bayern Munich no longer consider him to be an "unsellable" player.

Like many top players around Europe, Kimmich is only under contract until 30 June 2025 when his current £288,000 per week terms will expire, leaving Bayern exposed to the concern of losing him as a free agent.

It's a fate that the Reds are all too familiar with as Mohamed Salah's contract ticks down as well.

Manchester City eyeing summer transfer for Joshua Kimmich ahead of 50% transfer fee discount

According to an exclusive transfer report from the Daily Star, Manchester City are eyeing a summer move to sign Joshua Kimmich as Bayern Munich get set to slash his price from £50 million to £25 million.

The 50% discount comes as evidence of Bayern Munich's fear of losing a top, top player for free just as they might have had they not sold Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool the summer before his contract expired.

While Man City would like to sign Kimmich in January, it makes no sense given the inevitable price reduction.

Liverpool and Manchester United are both reportedly interested but worryingly for the Premier League pair, Kimmich "would love to reignite" his relationship with Pep Guardiola after the Spaniard signed him for the Bavarians in 2015.

Recap: Are Liverpool interested in making a move to sign Kimmich?

Given the recent reports, Liverpool are definitely interested in Kimmich.

Whether they see him as the ideal player to replace Fabinho is unclear.

In July, it was reported by Kicker journalist Georg Holzner that Bayern Munich were prepared to sell both Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka with neither consider "unsellable" but Liverpool did not make an approach to sound out the possibility of a deal to sign him.

Then, reports in Spain claimed that Liverpool were said to be confident they could finalise a move to sign the no.6 in the summer before Kimmich told a press tour in Japan that he was "very sure" be would be at Bayern this season.

This month, another Spanish outlet, AS, has suggested that Liverpool and Man United are ready to bid for Kimmich and "would not frown upon making an offer this summer for Kimmich."
