"People close to the matter": Liverpool must make history to complete €90M transfer amid "advanced" talks

Liverpool will have to break the bank if they want to sign 18-year-old Leny Yoro this year amid stern competition for his signature.

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are the Reds' biggest competitors. Whoever lands his signature will be signing a really, really good player.

Some on social media have suggested he could be a generational centre-back which is premature given he has only made 39 appearances at senior level.

Yet, the signs are certainly there.

Latest reports on Liverpool plans to sign Leny Yoro

Liverpool must believe he is going to be a top player given the are reportedly in "advanced" talks, along with Manchester United, to sign him.

This claim was made by French outlet le10sport at the start of January.

The Merseysiders are reportedly prepared to "sign a nice cheque" to complete a big money transfer.

Per the latest reports, they will have to.

Lille will only accept record breaking fee for Yoro

According to Telefoot, who cite "people close to the matter", Lille will not accept anything less than a Ligue 1 record for a centre-back to sell Yoro.

He's apparently rated at around €90 million (£77.4M) which makes it difficult to imagine Jurgen Klopp giving this move his blessing.

Not when you consider how impressive 20-year-old Jarell Quansah has been this season.

Some Liverpool fans have suggested he is Virgil van Dijk 2.0 although, just like 'generational' claims regarding Yoro, it's a bit too soon to say that.

All the same, Liverpool need a new centre-back to replace Joel Matip and they will sign one but they only ever break the bank to sign players they believe are well on their way to becoming world class but just need a little more coaching.
