"I would do exactly the same again": Klopp stands firm on major Atalanta decision

When the team news was announced, many wondered at the side that Jurgen Klopp selected but it was a team that should have been able to cope.

Hindsight is 50/50 so it's not fair to now say that Mohamed Salah should have started and so on but you will find no regret with Klopp.

Speaking after the match, the German was asked about his team selection and he bullishly replied: "I would do exactly the same again.”

While losing 3-0 to Atalanta is unequivocally a disaster, there is still hope for the second leg.

And perhaps, more hope than anyone dare imagine.

Diogo Jota was introduced in the second half and despite playing just 14 minutes, the Portuguese forward was one of the brightest players on the pitch.

It's a shame that couldn't be said about the rest of the team but by the time the second leg arrives next week, Klopp could have close to a fully fit team.

Along with Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker returned to training this week and will hopefully play a part in turning the tie around next week.

On their returns, Klopp said before the Atalanta defeat: “They are now back in training and now we have to see how we involve them and how we use them.

"That we need them is clear. But we need them in the best possible shape, and we want to give them kind of rhythm.

“It’s always a challenge trying to reintegrate the guys. With the quality they have it should be easier, and we will use them in the next days and weeks, but what it means for tomorrow I didn’t make a decision yet.”
